Enantiodromian Birth

r2 This album opens with a piece of somber, yet hopeful classical guitar work; followed abruptly by an unsettling dirge employing tribal drumming; followed by some of the most ice-cold black metal I have heard. And that’s just the first few minutes. The two tracks are epic tales in aural form, each one its own trip. Enantiodromian Birth is an orchestral, musically diverse experience which merits multiple listens. Favorite track: Golden Scar.

Ippocalyptica There is something happening here that is beyond my ability to succinctly describe, but in a nutshell, imagine often fast-paced psychedelic black metal with progressive song structures that are complete with sections of haunting, but never depressing, doom metal. Production is raw, instrumental proficiency is high, and vocals are sinister. What makes this unique and utterly captivating, however, is what I can only describe as the interplay between the two guitarists, who often perform as lead guitarists (with bass guitar acting as the rhythm guitar as needed) engaging in contrapuntal combat. I am not saying that Dispirit is employing the fugue on this album, but damn does it remind me of it at times. This is the best metal demo of 2018, make no mistake. Favorite track: Besotted by Feral Whims.
